U.S. Open quarterfinalist Cibulkova shares power-serving tips

We’re into the FedEx Cup playoffs now, and it’s time to take a look at the whole field. Who’s up? Who’s down? Who’s making a charge, and who’s stumbling? We’ve got the whole rundown right here.

At the top: Matt Kuchar hangs onto his top spot. Charley Hoffman, with a timely victory, jumps from 59th all the way up to second. Steve Stricker gets bumped down a spot, but he’s still ahead of Jason Day, whose solid finish vaulted him from 14th to fourth. And Luke Donald, who also turned in a solid weekend, rounds out the top 5.

On the way up: Geoff Ogilvy shot up to ninth from 52nd, and outside of Hoffman and Day was the big mover of the weekend. The other risers? Take a look at the leaderboard up there. Brandt Snedeker (31st) and John Senden (38th) both made charges up the rankings, but they’ll need to improve in a hurry to punch their tickets to East Lake.

On the decline: Several players who came into the FedEx Cup playoffs strong are faltering now. Ernie Els, Justin Rose, Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson continue to slide. Dustin Johnson gave up 10 spots this week, falling all the way to 16th. Anthony Kim and Camilo Villegas slid out of the top 30. And Sean O’Hair and Ian Poulter hurt their chances to play another round after this weekend.

Out the door: Adio, Kris Blanks. You moved up 20 spots, but since you were starting at 91st, you’re gone. So too are Padraig Harrington (73), Lucas Glover (74, and not helping his Ryder chances), Davis Love III (80), Kenny Perry (93) and, unfortunately, the ever-quotable Boo Weekley (98).

On the bubble: The BMW Championship will winnow the field down to the top 30, and that means several big names are going to have to get their games in gear in a hurry. Villegas, Kim, Stewart Cink (35), Tiger Woods (51), Justin Leonard (59) and Vijay Singh (63) are all in danger of missing an event where they’ve had significant success in recent years.

All right, your turn. With the new rankings in place, who are your picks to reach East Lake?

Concept Art for Peter Berg’s Unrealized ‘Dune’ Project

By now we’re used to notable directors pausing from their cinematic schedules to whip some short and fancy advertisement for everything from perfume to cars. David Lynch. Martin Scorsese. Wes Anderson. Terry Gilliam. Kathryn Bigelow. Michel Gondry. Even Frank Miller got into the trend this year.

But there’s one name you’d probably never expect to be linked to an ad — a fashion short no less! — Harmony Korine. The man who mused up Kids and then wrote and directed the likes of Gummo, Julien Donkey Boy, and Mister Lonely has crafted a short film for the fashion company Proenza Schouler called Act Da Fool.

MTV News’ Fall Movie Preview Week has been chock-full of the juiciest exclusive goods any eager moviegoer could hope for. Chills (courtesy of Wes Craven’s “My Soul to Take”), thrills (thanks to Chris Pine talking about Tony Scott’s “Unstoppable”) and exclusive stills. There was also some interesting talk about the secrets of onscreen nudity and post-production nipple addition (thanks, “Machete” cast!).

In celebration of the upcoming season of highly anticipated films, we’ve compiled a little list of the films the Hollywood set is most anxious to see.

“I am a huge Harry Potter nerd,” Chloe Bridges (“Camp Rock
2: The Final Jam”) told us at the premiere of the Disney sequel. “To obnoxious levels, it’s kind of sad, you have no idea, but yeah, I’m very excited for it. Part 1 of ‘The Deathly Hallows’!”

” ‘Tron’ for sure,” director M. Night Shyamalan said of the film he’s most looking forward to. “Because I don’t know what it’s going to be, and that’s so exciting. I know it’s based on the original movie, but I’m starving for original stuff as an audience member,” he said.

“Gulliver’s Travels” star Jack Black begged to differ on the “Tron” excitement, however.

“Yeah, that one’s not gonna be any good,” he said. “I don’t wanna see that.” And moments later Black changed his tune. Literally. He busted out a few bars of the original “Tron” theme for us.

“Look, I’m a ‘Tron’ guy,” Black confessed. “Yeah, I like ‘Tron.’ I played the ‘Tron’ video game when I was a kid. Yeah! I’m in, I’m a nerd.”

Black went on to say that he is equally excited for Jeff Bridges’ other fall film, “True Grit.”

“Jeff Bridges plus the Coen brothers equals genius,” he said. “If you saw ‘The Big Lebowski,’ you know what I’m sayin.”

“Somewhere” director Sophia Coppola also expressed enthusiasm for “True Grit,” as well as Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan.”

“I’m excited to see ‘Black Swan,’ and I know the Coen brothers have a movie coming out,” she said. “It’s always fun this time of year to go to the movies because there’s so much to see.”
We couldn’t agree more!

West, Makovsky, Gomez Advance in Bellator Bantamweight Tournament

Joe Warren has certainly made an impact in his 17-month pro MMA career.

He defeated veterans Chase Beebe and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto in his first two fights, which just so happened to be in the DREAM featherweight tournament in 2009. Those wins landed him in the finals of the tournament before losing to eventual champion Bibiano Fernandes.

Warren rebounded from that defeat to win the Bellator Season 2 featherweight tournament. Thursday evening, he challenges champion Joe Soto for the Bellator 145-pound belt.

Three weeks later, Warren will face the dangerous Michihiro Omigawa at DREAM.16.

Obviously, Warren expects to win both those fights. He also expects to be the DREAM featherweight champion by Jan. 1, 2011.

His next move, though, might surprise you.

Warren told host Mauro Ranallo on Sirius’ The Fight Show earlier this week, that he plans to leave MMA this time next year to make a run at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.Joe Warren Planning on Leaving MMA for 2012 Olympic Run

DETROIT — To steal a line from Bun B, Jay-Z and Eminem did everything but walk on water for the crowd at Comerica Park on Thursday and Friday. G-Unit, Young Jeezy, Drake, D12 and Dr. Dre were all guests at the shows, playing on a stage so huge, you could fit the entire Tigers and Lions teams on it. Before night two of the Home and Home Tour, MTV News talked to the man who had a very integral role in Em’s set, the Alchemist.

Though Em tried out something new with a live band, he also had Al holding down his duties on the 1’s and 2’s. A few hours before taking the stage on Friday night, Al gave us his recap about the combustion at Comerica.

“I think Em tested the waters [for these shows in Detroit and New York] when we did the Europe tour,” Alchemist said. “You could tell when he went out there in [Europe], when he saw the reaction of the people again, it was like, ‘Right.’ He’s been through so much. For him to be out there sober, this is the first time he’s hitting the stage — God bless the dead — without Proof. The [European shows] were big shows and a big step. You got the feeling he knew he had the step still, and people love him the same way.

“I looked at the crowds in Europe and said, ‘You have to do those shows in America,’ ” he continued. “A lot of times you go overseas. The love is the same. But the energy you see at these festivals [overseas], wow! Coming back from that and hitting the stage [Thursday in Detroit], reassured me, with a little bit of organization and some thought, the energy is the same in America. I was thrilled, like, ‘Wow. We brought it home.’

“From the DJ booth [Thursday] night, it was hard. You see the sea of people on the floor. If I looked up, I saw a full stadium of people. If I squinted my eyes real hard when the records were playing, I could see them going just as hard as the people in the front were. That was amazing. Even when Jay hit the stage, he had to pause and take a moment to take it all in. I felt that too. That’s not scripted.

“When Dre came out, that moment of the show, I became a fan. I was no longer DJing. At that moment when Dre came out, it was like, ‘Oooooh.’ He was five feet from me, he came out the floor. He was rising. It was like watching a video. It was the theatrics of a video. When he came out and did his Dre bop, it was like he never left,” Al observed. “When Em said, ‘You see what I do for you, Detroit,’ I knew Em was really comfortable.

“When Drake came out, it’s safe to say women really like Drake,” Alchemist added. “The guys, of course, like him as well, but the ladies — it was a shock. I’ve seen them do ['Forever'] a couple times. Last night was their best interaction. They’re getting into a zone where they are comfortable.”

MMA Quick Quote: Keith Jardine is on a mission

Quoteworthy:

“It’s about how I feel and if I want to go back and make a run at a title and how far away that would be. And whatever I think is left in the tank. I’ve been doing PR stuff for the last couple months, and I’ll finally be home for the month. I’ll probably decide sometime in September, when I have time to relax…. I don’t feel like there’s anything left to prove. I still love fighting, but there’s a lot that goes into it. Maybe it might be time. I’m just not sure yet.  You know, I’ve enjoyed the ride. No matter what, I’ve had a good time. I never expected it, but I’ve gotten paid a lot to do what I love. There are no complaints.”

Former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell plans to finally look in the mirror this month and make a determination about whether or not to put a ribbon on his UFC Hall of Fame career once and for all. Liddell was warned by his boss and long-time friend, UFC President Dana White, that he would be released from the promotion if didn’t hang ‘em up following his third straight (technical) knockout loss, which came at the hands of Rich Franklin earlier this year. LIddell has actually dropped five of his last six appearances inside the Octagon. So here we go again: Should he stay or should he go now? Let’s hear it, Maniacs.

Rumors are swirling that Brad Pitt is in town. A middle-aged woman swore to me that she saw him walking down the street, wearing a straw hat and munching on an ice cream cone. She knew it was him, she said, because every hair on her arm stood on end.

Goosebumps notwithstanding, this isn’t a looky-loo type of event, and the reason for the excitement is mostly the possibility that Pitt is here with Terrence Malick’s long-awaited Tree of Life, which its distributor has sworn up and down isn’t ready to be shown. There was some speculation that it might show up as a Sunday TBA nonetheless.

It didn’t – hey, Brad Pitt is allowed to come watch movies just like everyone else. But there are enough high-profile premieres here to do without The Tree of Life. Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours was an early favorite, though the first Saturday screening resulted in a fainting and the paramedics were called. (There was apparently some sort of medical emergency at the second screening as well, though I wasn’t there and have only heard rumors.) That’s great publicity for Fox Searchlight, though the movie isn’t really that extreme – it’s rough, for sure, but most folks reading this have seen “worse.”

My favorite film of the festival so far is Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go, which we’ll review in a few days. It’s a wonderful version of Kazuo Ishiguro’s masterpiece, and it does what all adaptations should do: it focuses on the story, strips it down, and zeroes in on its themes. It brings plenty of its own to the table, too, most notably Mark Romanek’s tender, lyrical direction, and a pair of heartbreaking, achingly beautiful performances from Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield. They’re two of the best actors of their generation; I could watch them all day.

BREAKING!! Wayne Rooney Cheated on Wife Coleen While She Was Preggers!

Happier Times: Wayne and Coleen before last nights revelations.

Manchester United and England striker WAYNE ROONEY has been exposed of cheating on his wife with a £1000-a-night hooker, all WHILE SHE WAS PREGNANT, with the pairs’ now-born son, Kai.

Apparently, 21-year-old Jennifer Thompson was on the receiving end of Rooney’s force this time as she bedded him 7 times in 4 months during Coleen’s pregnancy. It even went as far as Rooney developing a strong bond with her and flashing her around in bars and clubs while his wife would sit around pregnant! Why do they all do these disgusting things? It’s as if footballer = being a loverat.

Having cheated on her with granny-prostitutes before they got married, ol’ Wayne doesn’t expect to be taken back by Coleen this time. Apparently he’s expecting a divorce now after confessing all to her after his England team last night beat Bulgaria 4-0! He said to pals:

“My life is in ruins…I’ve been so stupid. Coleen won’t forgive me this time. She will leave me.”

Wayne last saw Jennifer for business in October 2009, but not for anything like that after son Kai was born in the same November. Infact, they avoided each other to rule out awkwardness even if they did see one and other after Kai’s birth.

As part of the revelations, Jennifer said:
’Wayne chased me with sex texts and paid in wads of cash. He didn’t seem to care he was betraying Coleen.

’Wayne certainly enjoyed all our meetings and didn’t seem to care what he was doing to his wife. I think he believes he is invincible and untouchable. As a woman, I wouldn’t want that done to me – especially if I was pregnant.’
…These women clearly forget that they’re making themselves look like huge sluts to the world by revealing these things, by the way.

Rooney is ofcourse currently in the England squad that is due to fly out to Switzerland for Tuesday night’s Euro 2012 qualifying game in Basle. But after revealing all to Coleen just yesterday, he may not even travel! Or, he might just pick up one of those ’mysterious’ injuries. More on that as we get it.

Either way, maybe this is why he’s only scored 2 goals in 6 months for Man Utd. or why he hasn’t found the net in over a year for his country! Bollocks! Clearly a man that’s out of form for Club, Country and Coleen.

Bristol Palin said she’s over Levi Johnston and dished about her “Dancing with the Stars” rehearsals on Friday’s “Tonight Show.” Asked by Jay Leno how she feels about the breakup with her baby’s papa, Bristol said, “I’m not disappointed. I’m not heartbroken.” “I tried to make it work for my son. It didn’t work, and I realized that we’re not meant to be, and I’m just focused on being a good mom,” said Bristol, whose son with Levi — Tripp — was backstage. But Jay eventually got Bristol giggling when he asked her if she’ll vote for Levi if he ends up running for Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. “He needs to move to Wasilla, to the city limits, and he needs to get his GED,” she laughed. Meanwhile, the teenage mom said “DWTS” ain’t an easy gig: “We’ve had three days of rehearsals… I expected it to be hard work, but I’m so uncoordinated and don’t have any rhythm so we’re starting from scratch.” “Well I think it was a wise choice to go on the show,” Leno giggled. “I was gonna say, that’s also how you get pregnant, but I’m not gonna go there.”
